Named Accountable GP

Named Accountable GP

Practices are required to allocate a named accountable GP to all patients, including children. A named accountable GP takes responsibility for the coordination of all appropriate services required under the contract and ensure that the services are delivered to the patients where required (based on the clinical judgement of the named accountable GP).  Additionally, if a third party request your GPs information this is the GP name that you would give.

Please ask the reception staff or your doctor for the name of your accountable GP.  This does not change the care you receive from the practice or prevent you from seeing any doctor in the practice.

All new patients registering at the practice will be informed about their named GP at registration.

Frequently asked Questions:

1.   I have never seen my named GP before; does this mean I have to see them from now on?

No, you can continue to see whoever doctor you prefer to see in the practice.

2.  I want to swap my named GP, can I do this?

There is no need to change your named GP; it will not affect which doctor directly cares for your health.

3.  Does the requirement mean 24 hour responsibility for patients?
